Eight Reasons for using Expanded Polystyrene “EPS” in the construction industry

EPS is a lightweight product composed of 98% air and only 2% plastic, made from small beads of monomer styrene, these are treated with a blowing agent (pentane) which when exposed to steam expands, creating a “prefoam”. This prefoam is then moulded into various shapes and sizes or expanded into large EPS blocks which are suitable for cutting into sheets and various other shapes and sizes.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) manufactured by the Isowall Group is fast becoming recognized as the insulation material of choice by specifiers of “Bills of Quantities”. This comes largely as a result of our technical knowledge backed up by years of experience in the building and construction industry.

Versatile: EPS can be manufactured to almost any shape or size and is compatible with a wide variety of materials.

Recyclable: EPS can be recycled in many ways once it comes to the end of its life. These include recycling directly into new building products and incineration to recover its inherent energy content. The choice of a recycling method is based on technical, environmental and economic considerations.

Extremely safe: EPS is non-toxic and totally inert, contains no Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s) or Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC’s), and never has at any time during its life cycle. It has no nutritional value, so no fungi or micro-organism can grow within EPS.

Cost-effective: EPS offers the best price/performance ratio compared to any other insulation material.

Easy to transport: EPS is almost as light as air, so it saves fuel in transport.

Acoustic insulant: EPS absorbs sound and impact sound in floating floors.

Easy to install: EPS is light, practical, safe and easy to handle and install.

Lifetime durability: EPS does not decompose. It therefore provides lifetime durability

Isowall produces Isolite range of EPS products for the construction industry. View here more properties of our Isolite EPS.

The Isowall Group has been manufacturing and distributing Isolite Block Moulded EPS since 1985, and Isolite Shape Moulded EPS since 1992. Isolite EPS products are used primarily for insulation, lightweight fillers and semi-rigid cushioning.

Isowall is the supplier of choice within Africa for Insulated Sandwich Panel, EPS and EPP products. Contact us for more information.
