Building with Expanded Polystyrene Blocks

Building with Expanded Polystyrene Blocks

Polystyrene blocks have unique characteristics that help builders construct project faster and cheaper than the usual brick-and-mortar buildings. The blocks are used in residential, industrial and commercial construction projects for one to multi-storey buildings.

These blocks serve as a protective shell for reinforced concrete, which fills the blocks and gives the building stability once cast in the foam mould. Steel bars are also used to reinforce the structure once the concrete is cast inside the blocks. Basement can also be constructed with reinforced EPS blocks since the EPS foam material is rot and mould resistant.

EPS blocks are foremost energy efficient and ensure optimal insulation for walls, floors and roofs of buildings. The foam material acts as efficient thermal insulation and is not removed after concrete casting, contributing to the overall comfort and strength of the construction.

In the building environment, cost and time savings are essential. Building with stacked EPS blocks saves labour and operational costs and reduces the time taken to finish the project. For example, electrical wiring and plumbing pipes can be inserted directly in the polystyrene to ensure the faster installation of electricity and plumbing pipes in a building.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) manufactured by the Isowall Group is fast becoming recognized as the insulation material of choice by specifiers of “Bills of Quantities”. This comes largely as a result of our technical knowledge backed up by years of experience in the building and construction industry.

The major benefit of building with EPS blocks is the significant savings in terms of energy, heat, airflow, and fire safety compared to traditional brick-and-mortar construction. EPS blocks ensure a safer and cleaner building process without losing the advantage of an extremely long-life and strong foundation.

Furthermore, developers and construction companies can better meet stringent environmental regulations in terms of green building, energy saving and the recycle value of materials to minimise the environmental footprint.

Isowall produces Insulated Concrete Formers under the Isolite brand. We manufacture the following sizes ranging from internal, partition and external walls (L x W x H):
