3 Cool Facts You Didn’t Know About EPP

Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is a thermoplastic with great properties that make ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including packaging and automotive. Here are a few things you may not know about EPP.

1. EPP has an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio

The versatile plastic compound EPP is widely used for applications such as automotive parts instead of other types of plastics or metals because of of its superior strength-to-weight ratio. EPP-moulded products are remarkably strong and durable, although lightweight.

Generally, EPP is the plastic type of choice for various industrial and consumer applications that include thermal insulation, energy-efficiency, shock or impact absorption, material resilience, strength and durability.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) manufactured by the Isowall Group is fast becoming recognized as the insulation material of choice by specifiers of “Bills of Quantities”. This comes largely as a result of our technical knowledge backed up by years of experience in the building and construction industry.

2. EPP foam can be customised to match various designs

Aside from its insulation and physical properties, EPP can be aesthetically customised. The durable foam is moulded in various shapes and colours to match different project requirements for industrial and product designers.

In the automotive industry, for example, the vehicle luggage compartments, panelling and bumpers elements are usually painted dark colours (grey or black) but can be also coloured-matched to the overall custom design. This improves the quality of the automobile finishes.

3. EPP is 100% sustainable and recyclable

A less known fact is that EPP is entirely recyclable, unlike other types of plastics. EPP can be reheated and reused in injection moulding for different applications without any structural damage to the core material and the environment.

Several industries as seen above rely on EPP components in manufacturing because they are more environmentally friendly, sustainable and recyclable than other materials and plastic resources, also reducing costs and improving overall process efficiency.

Isowall manufactures Isolite EPP from the highest quality expanded polypropylene material available, mainly for the automotive industry such as seat cores, bumpers, knee pads and door fillers.

We have a toolroom to assist with the manufacture of moulds, and a JSP ARPRO approved moulder. Products moulded from ARPRO® are remarkably durable, lightweight, and recyclable.

ISOWALL IS A MEMBER OF THE POLYSTYRENE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICA (PASA) AND THE SUPPLIER OF CHOICE WITHIN AFRICA FOR INSULATED SANDWICH PANEL, EPS AND EPP PRODUCTS.
