ABOUT

About Isowall Group

Isowall Group, insulated panel and EPS manufacturer with over 53 years of manufacturing depth.

When insulation fails in a temperature-controlled facility, the compressor cycles harder, product integrity becomes a question, and compliance audits get uncomfortable. We have spent over 53 years making sure that does not happen.

What we manufacture

What does Isowall Group manufacture?

We operate through four divisions: Isowall Panels, Isowall Moulding, Isoprojects and Isowall Automotive. We manufacture insulated sandwich panels, expanded polystyrene (EPS) and expanded polypropylene (EPP) products from our 45,000m² Pretoria facility and our Kempton Park facility. We have a workforce of over 500 and produce over 300,000m² of panel per year.

Each division has a distinct focus and a distinct customer base. Isowall Panels supplies to architects, specifiers, contractors and cold-chain operators. Isowall Moulding serves packaging, protective, retail, agricultural and cold-chain applications. Isoprojects delivers panel installation for selected cold-chain and industrial projects. Together, they draw on the same manufacturing discipline, the same site in Pretoria, and over 53 years of accumulated technical depth.

Isowall Panels

Isowall Panels

Our Isophen panel system with Polyphen core is currently the only FM Approved insulated panel system in South Africa. We produce four core types: EPS, PIR, mineral wool and Polyphen, and over 300,000m² of panel per year from our Pretoria facility. Every panel includes the Inta-Lock joint system as standard: a mechanical interlock that holds its geometry through temperature cycling, not a compression fit that loosens over time. Insulated doors and panel accessories are made in-house.

Isowall Moulding

Isowall Moulding

A moulded foam component cannot be corrected once it leaves the machine. When the mould is wrong, the production run is scrap, not rework. Our in-house Toolroom at the Pretoria facility designs and builds custom moulds for expanded polystyrene (EPS) and EPP components, which means tolerance corrections happen on site without adding external supplier lead time at every iteration. Block EPS, shape-moulded EPS, cornices, skirtings and cups and tubs are all produced here.

Isoprojects

Isoprojects

Most cold room commissioning disputes begin at the handover gap between the panel supplier and the installation contractor. A panel that arrives on site to specification can still fail thermal performance testing if the installation does not match the design intent. Isoprojects is our dedicated installation division, and it closes that gap. The specification that leaves our Pretoria facility is the specification that goes in on site: one order, one lead time, one point of accountability.

Isowall Automotive

Isowall Automotive

Our Automotive division produces shape-moulded expanded polypropylene (EPP) components for automotive OEM and Tier supply chains. The quality discipline that work demands (repeatability, dimensional accuracy, zero tolerance for defects) does not stay on the automotive line. It carries through to how every division in the Group builds, maintains and documents its production process.

Our history

How long has Isowall Group been in operation?

We have been manufacturing insulated panels and EPS products in South Africa for over 53 years. We operate from a 45,000m² facility in Pretoria and a second facility in Kempton Park. We have a workforce of over 500 and produce over 300,000m² of insulated sandwich panel annually.

The business did not start with four divisions and a 45,000m² facility. It started with one laminating line and one product: EPS-cored sandwich panels for cold stores. What follows is the record of what was built, what was earned, and what was lost along the way.

1973–2003

One laminating line. One product: EPS-cored sandwich panels for cold stores. Peter R. van Duyn acquired the business in 1983. Block Moulded EPS production started in 1985. Shape moulding was added in 1992, and with it a second market.

2004–2006

ISO 9001:2000 certified in 2004. A new sandwich panel line was installed in 2005. EPP moulding was established the same year. Our first automotive-grade manufacturing credential was received in 2006.

2007–2010

In January 2007, the first computer-controlled expanded polystyrene (EPS) cutting line in Africa was commissioned at our new Pretoria factory. The Medupi Power Station contract followed in 2010.

2012–2013

Hebcooler EPS cups and tubs were acquired in 2012. The Isowood range launched the same year. ISO 14001:2004 was certified in 2013. The Isotec Training Academy was established. The Kusile Power Station contract was secured.

2015–2016

The first EPP seat parts manufactured in South Africa came off our production line in 2015. A KwaZulu-Natal warehouse depot was established for EPP and EPS distribution. Peter van Duyn passed away in 2016 after 33 years building this business.

2017–2019

ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 were certified in 2017. In 2019, we received the Golden Award for the entire African continent at the Toyota Boshoku Annual Supplier Meeting in Nagoya, Japan, for project management, quality and logistics performance.

2020–2022

Growth Capital Partners invested in the Group in 2020. We became a B-BBEE Level 5 contributor that year and advanced to B-BBEE Level 4 in 2022.

2023–2025

The Shoprite Riverfields contract was secured and Automa Multi Styrene was acquired in 2023. ISO 45001:2018 certification was achieved for our Automotive EPP Pretoria operation. In 2025 the Group restructured into four distinct operating divisions.

Certifications and memberships

What certifications and memberships does Isowall Group hold?

We hold active memberships with EPSASA (Expanded Polystyrene Association of Southern Africa), TPMA (Thermal Panel Manufacturers Association), PCASA (Plastic Converters Association of South Africa) and TIPSASA (Thermal Insulation Products and Systems Association of South Africa). We are certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and FSSC 22000 at our Pretoria facility. We are currently the only FM Approved insulated panel manufacturer in South Africa.

These are not the certifications we applied for to win contracts. They are the disciplines our business operates under: quality management, environmental management, food safety at our own manufacturing facility, and the FM Approval that reflects what our Isophen panel system can deliver on site. A specifier including us in a bill of quantities can download the certificates from our SHEQ page.

Our people

How does Isowall Group develop its workforce?

We train our workforce through the Isotec Training Academy, established in 2013. The Academy runs structured learnerships that combine on-the-job experience with Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), so team members earn industry-recognised qualifications rather than just time served.

The Isotec Training Academy was not set up to tick a compliance box. It was set up because a workforce that understands why a process matters produces better output than one that simply follows it.

Our Skills Development Facilitator runs structured learnerships for team members across all four divisions. Participants combine practical work with formal Recognition of Prior Learning, and they leave with industry-recognised qualifications.

The quality discipline applied to our most demanding production work does not stay on those lines. It becomes the standard for how everyone across the Group is trained, supervised and held to account.

Environment and society

What is Isowall Group’s environmental and social record?

Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001:2015. Our Pretoria manufacturing facility holds FSSC 22000 food safety certification. We are a B-BBEE Level 4 contributor. We have recycled EPS manufacturing scrap into Isoskirting products since 2010. Isowood skirting is produced from 85% recycled content.

01Environmental

Sustainability in how we operate

Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001:2015. Sustainability is part of how we operate, not a reporting exercise. Since 2010, we have recycled EPS manufacturing scrap into Isoskirting extruded skirting boards and dado rails. Isowood, our foiled skirting range, is produced from 85% recycled content.

A B-BBEE Level 4 contributor

We are a B-BBEE Level 4 contributor. Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment is a commitment, not a compliance line. We advanced to Level 4 in 2022. Our 2025 B-BBEE certificate is publicly available on our Social Responsibility page.
